A court here sent a union parishad chairman to jail, after his bail request in connection to a murder case was denied on Sunday.

Officer-in-Charge of Nalchity Police Station Md Shakhawat Hossain said Kabir Hossain Howlader, a chairman of Mollarhat union, was brought before a court on Sunday morning, where he was denied bail because of his involvement in the murder of Saidul Islam Talukder.

Efforts are underway to arrest the rest of the accused in the case, he added.

Saidul was riding on his motorcycle with his nephew, when they came under attack from Kabir and his accomplices near Nachanmahal Bazar in the upazila on Saturday.

They injured his nephew, hacked him to death and fled the scene afterwards.

Later Saidul’s father Abdul Aziz Talukder filed a murder case the same day, accusing UP chairman Kabir and 12 accomplices.

He said despite being a follower of Kabir, his son faced the chairman’s wrath for not maintaining contact with him.
