Having a reputation for stepping outside the lines of conventional education, Sir John Wilson School decided to host its first ever inter-school football tournament on October 19 and 20 this year, and they went all out.

Chief organiser Zaiyan Muhammad enlisted the help of volunteers from classes nine to 12 and orchestrated a sensational, entirely student run event.

The honorable organisations Air Asia, Lanka Bangla and Edison Group  and parents of students, Sohel Monzoor, Sayeed Hasan, N Mamoon and Ashraf Kaiser were the sponsors of this event.

Tahmeed  Mostafiz, captain of Sunbeams’ triumphant U-19 boys’ team said, “I have played several amazing tournaments in the past five years, but this, despite being the first tournament organised by Sir John Wilson School, has by far been the best, hands down.”

Schools from all over the city including Delhi Public School, Chittagong Grammar School Dhaka, HURDCO, Sunbeams, Singapore School Kinderland, Aga Khan School, International Turkish Hope School and Pledge Harbour came together in high spirit to give their best shot at the chance to bring home the Cup.

Food stalls such as Pizza Roma, Igloo, Bellisimo, The great Indian Dosa, Madchef and Thanda Gorom contributed to making this tournament refreshing and further enjoyable for the crowd.

The tournament opened with a performance from the up and coming band “Indecision”. It took a well-deserved party intermission with the all-Wilsoner band “Areb Not Areb” and closed with a couple of beloved songs from some of the school’s most musically talented students.

Both the opening and closing ceremony had the encouraging words of the principal, Sabrina Shaheed. The trophies and medals were given to the winner by the principal, and vice principal, Dr Farhana Zaman.

The ceremony ended in a tangle of students from all schools cheering their hearts out for their teammates and newfound friends as the trophies and medals were bestowed upon the most deserved.

Sunbeams emerged as champion in both the U-19 boys and girls categories, while ITHS secured the championship in the U-16 boys category.

Sir John Wilson School entered the world of inter-school football for the first time with an event to remember and they only look to uphold their school motto when it comes to organising future tournaments; if this year was good, next year will be even better and they won’t stop until they’re the best.
