Mahfuza Khatun Shila is the only female swimmer from Bangladesh to win a gold medal in the South Asian Games till date, but the 29-year old Bangladesh Navy swimmer is uncertain to participate in the upcoming Games in December this year.

Shila, who won double golds in the 2016 SA Games, was included among the 32 swimmers in the ongoing Games' preparation camp that started on July 15, but she has not taken part in the practice session fully due to illness.

“Shila is going through some complications. She has consulted with two gynecologists – one in civil and other in service – who suggested her to avoid hard works. She is in the camp but doing only light training. We have not taken any decision yet because anything regarding family planning is her personal decision,” said national swimming camp commander Mahadiul Hasan Sunday.

Shila, who won doubles golds in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events in the 2016 SA Games in Guwahati, also admitted about her illness but denied commenting anything more.
