With a view to providing eye-care services for people living in coastal areas, a child-friendly eye-care unit has been inaugurated in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

Orbis International Bangladesh provided technical support for set up of the unit, with financial support from Qatar Fund for Development.

Bob Ranck, president and chief executive officer of Orbis International, inaugurated and inspected the child-friendly eye-care unit at Cox’s Bazar Baitush Sharaf Hospital.

"The inauguration of the child friendly eye-care unit is a milestone event in Bangladesh. As there were no such treatment services for the children of this area, this unit can now contribute to reducing and preventing childhood blindness," Ranck said.

The Orbis International Bangladesh Country Program has been working on the Childhood Blindness Reduction Program from 2000. Since then, Orbis International Bangladesh has established 13 child-friendly eye care units across the country through their partners.
