In Narayanganj, a suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB 11in the Saidpur area
Two suspected criminals were killed in reported gunfights with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gazipur and Narayanganj on Wednesday.
In Gazipur, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB near Shatkhamair bazar in the Barmi union in the Sreepur upazila around 2:30am on Wednesday.
The deceased is Masud Parvez, 33, a resident of Barmi union of the upazila.
Based on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive in the area, said RAB 1 Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kamruzzaman.
“Sensing the presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on us, we fired back in self-defence. Masud was caught in the line of fire while the others managed to flee the scene," he added.
Mahmud Hasan, on-duty doctor at the health complex, said Masud was already dead when he was brought there around 4am.
RAB Constable Sohrab Hossain was also injured in the incident. He was given primary treatment at the upazila health complex.
According to RAB, Masud was wanted in several cases, including murder, robbery and possession of illegal firearms. Several arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot.
When asked, the mother of the alleged robber Masud Parvez said: “My son is wanted for five cases and he is out on bail in all of them. But none of the cases were connected to arms or murder. He used to stay at his in-laws place because of all the cases.

The deceased is Tuhin, 25, allias Chapati Tuhin, a resident of Deobhog Nagar.
RAB 11 Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Moshiur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune
According to Moshiur, Tuhin was involved in narcotics and other criminal activities. On Tuesday night, he was arrested from Comilla.
Based on his information, a RAB team conducted the area and recovered a foreign pistol, a magazine and three rounds of bullets and liquor from the spot, Moshiur added.
His associates followed RAB’s movements and fired at them in an attempt to free Moshiur. When they fired back, he was shot and later taken to Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival, said the RAB official.
