Murder suspect killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’

Police recovered two firearms and ten rounds of bullets from the spot

A murder suspect has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Rajbari.

The incident occurred at Kalibari area of Chandani union of the district early Monday.

The deceased is Abdur Rahim, 38, an accused of eight cases including murder, robbery and possession of illegal firearms.

Swapan Kumar Majumdar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajbari sadar police station, confirmed the matter, saying: “On a tip-off that Rahim is hiding in Kalibari area, a team of police conducted a drive there.”

He added that upon seeing the police, Rahim and his accomplices opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcement members to strike back in self-defence, leaving Rahim injured.

Later, he was taken to the emergency unit of Rajbari Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The police team recovered two firearms and ten rounds of bullets from the spot.

The body has been sent to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
