Suspected robber killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Police also recovered locally made guns and bullets from the spot

A suspected Rohingya robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar. 

The deceased is Habibullah, 30, of Mochni Rohingya camp. 

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station, said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive at a hill beside Zadimora Shalbagan Rohingya camp on Saturday night. 

“Seeing the presence of police, a group of robbers opened fire at us. We fired back in defense.

“Sub-inspectors Sujit De and Moshiur were injured during the incident.” he added.

Police have also recovered two locally made guns and ten rounds of bullets during the drive. 

OC Pradip said: “Habibullah and the two injured policemen were taken to Teknaf Medical Hospital. 

“Later, Habibullah was transferred to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital, where the on- duty doctors declared him dead.”

He added that Habibullah was wanted in over six cases filed with Teknaf police station.
