A case was filed for an acid attack on a man protesting his wife's rape in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali on Monday around 8pm.

The acid attack victim, Nasir Uddin, filed a case under the Acid Crime Prevention Act, accusing three people named, Joynal Abedin, 38, Zakir Hossain, 35, and Abdur Rahman, 40.

Char Jabbar police station OC Shahed Uddin confirmed the incident and said: "We are working on the case and trying to arrest the accused three."

Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Alamgir Hossain paid a visit to Nasir at the Noakhali General Hospital and assured him of full and proper cooperation.

Nasir Uddin, husband of a rape victim, was burnt by acid late Monday night, reportedly  for participating in an anti-rape demonstration on Sunday afternoon.

Nasir’s family members said a group of five or six people swooped down on Nasir when he stepped out of his house in the early hours of Monday, and threw acid at him.

Nasir was able to recognize three or four of his attackers.

They also said Nasir was getting threats since he filed a case with the police on May 2, against his neighbour Joynal.

Nasir had accused Joynal of raping his wife by threatening to release online, some secretly taken  videos of her bathing.

A few days after Nasir filed the case against Joynal, Joynal filed a counter case against Nasir, accusing him of stealing money.

Since then, Joynal had been threatening Nasir’s family with driving them away from their home, Nasir’s family complained.
