Rifat Sharif's father, Md Abdul Halim Sharif Dulal, has accused Ayesha Siddiqua Minni and her family of trying to manipulate the investigation of his son's murder case.

He made this statement in a press briefing, held at Barguna Press Club on Friday afternoon.

Dulal said: "Police have successfully arrested and recorded statements of Minni and other 15 perpetrators given before the court under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure."

"However, I think Minni's family members, with the help of an influential political group, have been trying to derail the investigation," he said.

He further said only the government can take decision as to who will investigate the case.

He added saying that request of Minni's father Hossain Kishor to transfer the case to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), is not acceptable at all.

Dulal also told the media that Mojammel hid his daughter's previous marriage with Nayon Bond from them.

"If Mojammel had not concealed the truth, Rifat would have been alive, and he would be with us now," Dulal continued.

He also claimed that Minni’s parents were directly or indirectly involved with Rifat’s murder. He also requested their arrest to ensure proper justice.

Dulal appealed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan  and IGP Mohammad Javed Patwary to bring Minni’s parents under trial.

Earlier on Wednesday, Minni’s father demanded probe under PBI, claiming his daughter's innocence.

He requested the government and PBI's interference to prove his daughter's innocence in Rifat's murder case.

Rifat was indiscriminately hacked by a group of youths in Barguna in front of Minni on June 26.

On July 16, police arrested Minni. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day.

On July 18, Barguna Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain said Minni confessed to her involvement in the murder.

The next day, a Barguna court recorded her statements.

Till date, 15 people have been arrested in connection with Rifat Sharif's murder. All of them have confessed to their crimes.

Prime accused Nayan Bond was killed in a gunfight with police on July 2.
