Five people, including two sisters, have died as a boat capsized in Jamalpur flood water.
The incident occurred in Kalikapur Nikli swamp under Sarishabari upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased are Suborna Akhter, 15, her younger sister Jhuma Akhter, 8, daughters of Kobirul Islam from Kalikapur village, Antara, 12, daughter of Golam Mostafa from the same village, Rodoshi Akhter, 11, daughter of Ripon Shikdar from Ponchasi village, and Jannatul Joya, 10, Daughter of Jobanur Hossain from Paishkka village of the upazila.
In-charge of Sarishabari Tarakandi police investigation centre, Inspector Mohabbat Kabir, said: “Nine people were in the boat. Five of them died as the boat capsized.
“The other four were rescued by locals.”
Officer- in-Charge of Sarishabari police station Majharul Islam said: “On information, we recovered the bodies from the spot.”
