Rangpur ACC Assistant Director Jahangir Alam said a report will be submitted as soon as the investigation is complete.

Two senior officers at the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Rangpur have been accused of corruption.

On Saturday, a Rangpur court heard the plaintiff Rabiul Islam Bulbul, who alleged that Executive Engineer Akhtar Hossain and Senior Assistant Engineer Kawsar Alam with the Rangpur LGED blacklisted him after he refused to pay bribes.

According to the case details, the Rangpur LGED issued a tender on February 13, to which Rabiul applied with necessary paperwork and security deposit. Weeks later on March 4, another tender was issued, for which Rabiul also bid. He made the lowest bids for both tenders, and expected to be awarded them.

However, when Rabiul sent his manager to the LGED office, Akhtar referred him to Kawsar, who demanded 2% of the total value of both tenders which were around Tk4.25 crore.

Rabiul’s manager was scandalized and tried to complain to Akhtar, who told him that unless the “2% commission” was paid, the tenders would not be awarded.

Rabiul complained that as he had not paid the bribe, he was blacklisted from all future tenders by the two engineers.

The court, after the hearing, has asked the Rangpur Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate into the matter and submit a report by September 2.

Rangpur ACC Assistant Director Jahangir Alam said a report will be submitted as soon as the investigation is complete.
