A mentally challenged woman was allegedly gang-raped in Kurua, of Nandail upazila, Tangail.
The alleged rapists, Rajib, 30, and Anis, 52, lured the woman into Rajib’s tea stall, and gang-raped her, while videotaping the act on a mobile phone, on Sunday.
According to the woman’s cousin, the woman came home after the rape, and disclosed the incident to him. Later he filed a case under the Woman and Child Repression Act in Kalihati police station.
He said: “Along with locals, I went to a few local influential people to ask for justice. But they tried to cover up the incident, and with their help, the two accused were able to flee the area.”
Kalihati police station’s OC Mir Mosharrof Hossain said: “A case has been filed by the victim’s cousin. Acting on the case we have arrested Anis, and sent him to Tangail court. The woman was sent to Tangail General Hospital for treatment. We are hoping to arrest the other accused, Rajib soon.”
