Earlier in the day, BTRC had blocked 3G and 4G services for the second time ahead of the polls

The country is set to vote in the 11th general election on Sunday with no mobile internet access available anywhere across 64 districts.

The government on Saturday night completely shut down mobile internet across the country, after Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) curbed 4G and 3G network services in the afternoon, reports UNB.

The move was aimed at limiting mobile internet following instructions from the Election Commission to slow down the internet speed.

BTRC sent a letter to all mobile operators around 10:50pm Saturday asking them to implement the directive immediately.

As per the letter, the directive will remain in force until further notice.
