The Election Commission (EC) has decided to use technologically advanced electronic voting machines (EVM) only for the Barisal City Corporation (BCC) elections—out of three city polls scheduled to be held in July.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, while speaking to the Dhaka Tribune said: “Out of three city polls, we are considering using EVMs only in the Barisal city polls. Twelve machines will be used—which is double the number used in the Gazipur city polls.”
However, he said the decision would be finalized at the next commission meeting.
The EVMs feature state-of-the-art security systems and many other benefits over the traditional systems.
