Child falls from mother's lap during rickshaw ride, dies in Dhaka

A child has died after falling from her mother's lap while they were on a battery- run rickshaw in Dhaka.

The accident took place in Dhaka's Pallabi area around 2:30pm on Friday.

The deceased identified as Khadija, 5, daughter of Azam from Dhaka's Mirpur 12 section.

Abdul Khan, assistant sub-inspector(ASI) of DMCH police outpost, confirmed the matter.

The family was returning home riding on a battery run rickshaw from Purabi Cinema hall after attending a program. When the rickshaw reached Kalshi road, he was entangled in the thread of kite being flown by a bystander.

When the rickshaw-puller attempted to remove the thread, the rickshaw became unstable. As a result, the child fell from her mother’s lap and sustained serious head injuries. 

The child was rushed  to a  local clinic, before being shifted to Dhaka Medical  College Hospital (DMCH) when her condition deteriorated . Duty Doctors declared her dead hours after admission, according to the father of the deceased.
