Woman kills husband with cricket bat

The woman fled the scene taking their five-year-old son Tayeef

A woman killed her sleeping husband with a cricket bat in Dhaka.

The incident took place in the Kafrul area on Saturday around 9am.

The deceased, Babul Akter, 35, was a steno typist for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 

The deceased's mother, Soneka Begum, 60, was also   injured in this incident. 

Babul's father, Rifaj Uddin said: "On the morning of the incident, Babul's wife randomly started hitting him with a cricket bat. Babul's mother came forward to help him. However, the woman hit her too."

The woman fled the scene taking their five-year-old son Tayeef with her, Rifaj added.

Babul and Soneka were immediately taken to Agargaon's National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital. Later, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

In-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, Md Bachchu Mia, told Dhaka Tribune: "Babul died there around 4:30pm on the same day, while undergoing treatment . His mother, however, is still under treatment."

The body was sent for autopsy. The murder motive could not be known immediately.  However, Kafrul police station was informed about it, Md Bachchu concluded.
