An informal petition in this regard has been proceeded

Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam has remarked that Ashek-e-Rasul—the defense lawyer of the prime accused in the Subarnachar gang rape case—is to face contempt of court charges.

The AG stated this at a press briefing at his office in Dhaka on Monday.

An informal petition has already been proceeded to the relevant high court bench by the attorney general.

According to the Court, the formal petition and hearing will be held on Wednesday.

Following the court’s decision, the attorney general said: "Advocate Ashek-e-Rasul is now abroad. We have informed the court about the defence lawyer's misleading information. Court has ruled in this regard."

The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman delivered the order on Monday.

Previously, on March 23, the High Court bench recalled their previous decision after the state realized that the criminal defence lawyer had misled them.

On 18 March, the same bench had granted one-year interim bail to Ruhul Amin; prime accused in the gang-rape of a housewife, from Noakhali’s Subarnachar, following the December 30 polls.
