Jaya Ahsan wins Filmfare East Award

Jaya Ahsan won Best Actress award for her role in “Bishorjan” at the Jio Filmfare Awards (East) 2018 on Saturday, February 17.  The Best Picture award also went to “Bishorjan.” Jaya received nominations for Best Actress in two categories, popular choice and critics’ choice. She won the award in the “Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) – Popular” category. The “Critics’ Award for Best Actor (Female)” went to Ishaa Saha for “Projapoti Biskut.” In other major categories, Koushik Ganguly won Best Director for “Bishorjan,” Prosenjit Chatterjee won “Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) – Popular” for “Mayurakshi” and Soumitra Chatterjee won “Critics’ Award for Best Actor (Male)” for “Mayurakshi.” Kaushik Gangulay also won “Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male)” for his role in “Bishorjan.” From Bangladesh, Sheikh Rajibul Islam got nominated for the Best Cinematography Award for “Doob”. Chikutt’s vocal Sumi received a double nomination- one for penning the lyrics of the celebrated playback number in “Doob,” “Ahare Jibon’ and the other for voicing the track, under the Best Lyrics and Best Playback Singer (Female) categories. The drummer of the band, Pavel Areen, had also been nominated in the Best Background Score category for his work in the same film. The Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s film “Doob” bagged a total 5 nominations in different categories, including the one for Irrfan Khan in the “Critics’ Award for Best Actor.” Jaya Ahsan had previously been nominated for the award for her roles in “Aborto” and “Eagler Chokh.”
