NBR holds first customs bond and policy committee meeting

The working committee's convener and Bond Commissioner SM Humayun Kabir presided over the meeting, where BGMEA President Rubana Huq attended as chief guest

Speakers yesterday said honest businessmen will receive maximum cooperation from National Board of Revenue (NBR) regarding export-related activities.

They came up with suggestions during the first meeting of the joint working committee of NRB's Customs Bond Commisionerate (Dhaka and Chittagong offices), Chittagong and Benapole Customs House, VAT Intelligence and BGMEA at Dhaka Bond Commissionerate office in Dhaka, said a press release.

The working committee's convener and Bond Commissioner SM Humayun Kabir presided over the meeting, where BGMEA President Rubana Huq attended as chief guest.

BGMEA President Rubana Huq said allegations against a few RMG factories cannot be generalized, as they all have distinct interpretations of their bond facility misuses.

Bond Commissioner SM Humayun Kabir, on behalf of NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, said proper usage of products through Utilization Declaration (UD) must be ensured in the RMG sector.

He also urged BGMEA to look into the allegations of several unscrupulous RMG traders selling products in the open market.

Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House M Fakhrul Alam said misuse of bonds prevail by only 1-2% in the RMG industry, but it is important to identify the guilty parties and bring them to book.

Fakhrul Alam also invited members of the working committee to visit Chittagong Customs House, and other relevant offices to understand the nuances of bond facilities better.

Top NBR, Bond Commisionerate, Customs and BGMEA officials were also present at the meeting.
