People on streets protesting transfer of Thakurgaon deputy commissioner

The transfer of Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Abdul Awal has sparked protests in the district town. The Public Administration Ministry has issued an order on Sunday which reassigned Awal as the deputy commissioner of Jessore. Several hundred people, belonging to all political parties and professions, took to the streets at several points of the district town in protest of that decision on Tuesday afternoon. A group of people blocked the Dhaka-Thakurgaon highway at Old Bus Stand area around 1pm demanding the cancellation of the transfer order. They also vandalized several auto-rickshaws. The protesters withdrew the demonstration program after some officials of the district administration assured them of taking necessary steps. Thakurgaon Press Club President Abu Torab Manik, Thakurgaon Mahila Parishad General Secretary Suchorita Deb, Thakurgaon district unit Swechchhasebak League General Secretary GMM Siraji, Thakurgaon district unit Chhatra Dal President Md Kayes, among others, addressed the program. The speakers categorically said Awal be allowed to serve the Thakurgaon district administration as the deputy commissioner for the sake of continuation of the welfare and development activities he had initiated in the district.
