Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained two people for their alleged involvement in leaking question papers of public examinations in Gazipur.

RAB members picked them up from Jogirsit area under Sreepur upazila around 11:30pm on Thursday.

The detainees are Rafiqul Islam, 25, son of Abul Hashem of Jogirsit village; and Akram Hossain, 21, son of Shukur Ali.

Rafiqul Islam is a fourth-year honors student of Bhawal Badre Alam Government College in Gazipur; and also runs a coaching centre in the area.

Lieutenant Commander Abdullah Al Mamun, RAB 1 company commander, in a press release, said two mobile phones—which had been used to leak question papers—have been seized from the detainees’ possession. Evidence of question paper leaks—through messaging platform WhatsApp and other social media platforms such as Facebook—has also been found on the phones.

After quizzing the detainees, it was revealed that the duo collected question papers for the Primary Education Completion (PEC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams through a Facebook ID in the name of Md Rafiqul Islam.

Sometimes they forged question papers on their own by compiling papers from previous years. They then sold the papers to some opportunistic students and collected cash from them through the mobile financial service bkash, said the press release.

Efforts are underway to catch the other associates of the detainees; while a case is being filed with Sreepur police station in this regard, said the RAB official in the press release.
