Govt lifts suspension as it extends virus curbs for five more days

Update : 05 Aug 2021, 05:25 PM

The government has cleared domestic flights to resume operations in all routes from Friday in gradual relaxation of the extended Covid-19 lockdown.

The information was confirmed in the notification of the cabinet division regarding lockdown restrictions on Thursday.

Right after the notification, US-Bangla Airlines issued a press release on resumption of flights on all domestic routes in compliance with health regulations from August 6.

Among the routes operated from Dhaka, the airline has decided to run flights to Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Syedpur, Jessore, Sylhet, Barisal and Rajshahi, said the press release.

Novoair will operate six daily flights from Dhaka to Chittagong, Syedpur, and Jessore while two flights to Barisal, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Cox's Bazar, the airline said in a statement.

On Friday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate two flights from Dhaka to Chittagong, and Syedpur, one each to Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, Rajshahi, Barisal and Jessore.

The airways will operate three regular flights to Chittagong, and Syedpur and two flights to Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, Barisal, and Jessore and only one flight will operate to Rajshahi from Saturday.

On July 23, CAAB permitted three domestic airways to operate flights to carry only international passengers to port of departure during lockdown.

The government decided to extend the nationwide strict lockdown amid mounting Covid-19 cases and hospitalization until August 10 in an effort to slow down the virus transmission.

The Cabinet Division issued the notification on Thursday which will remain in force from 12 am on August 5 till 12 am on August 10.

According to the notification, the industries and factories will remain out of the purview of the restriction while the domestic flight will operate following health guidelines.

The nationwide lockdown, first imposed on July 23 for 14 days until August 5, has now been extended for another five days till August 10 amid a surge in the Delta variant of Covid-19 infections across the country.

The government also asked all concerned to take measures in this regard.
