The national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines is facing severe criticism for putting the national flag on a floor mat at a Biman counter used by VIP, Business Class, Loyalty and Gold card passengers at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand.
Many people have criticized the insult to the national flag and have posted comments on social media.
Filmmaker Shahnewaz Kakoli wrote on her Facebook page: "Biman has honored Bangladesh on foreign soil! The venue is Bangkok Airport! There are no other floor mats except for Biman's. Who is responsible for this? You have by now understood who uses this mat. I love you Sonar Bangla.”
One Mohiuddin Mamun wrote: "How could Biman insult the national flag by using it as a floor mat?
Biman's Country Manager Nazmul Hasan admitted the incident has been drawing a lot criticism but said the floor mat's design was of Biman's logo, not the national flag.
When contacted, officials at Biman's head office refused to make any comment.
However one official, seeking anonymity, said an order was issued to remove the floor mat as soon as possible.
